Basketball Recap: Douglas Comes Up Short

Douglas fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Spanish Springs on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Spanish Springs Cougars 62-57. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Cougars are ranked fifth).

When it comes to explaining why Douglas lost, don't look at Evan Tolbert. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 11 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds. Those 16 points gave Tolbert a new career-high. Noah Kizer was another key player, putting up nine points along with five assists and three steals.

Brady Hummel had an outrageously good game for Spanish Springs as he dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. Hummel continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Hensley, who posted ten points and seven boards.

Douglas has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Spanish Springs, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Douglas will welcome Damonte Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Douglas is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.4 points per game this season. As for Spanish Springs, they will head out to take on McQueen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
