Basketball Recap: Mountain Heritage Triumphs

Mountain Heritage entered their tilt with Hendersonville on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 42-41 W against the Bearcats. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Bearcats on Monday, they had to take a 46-41 defeat.

Mountain Heritage's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maggie Neill, who posted eight points and ten boards. Callie Capps was another key player, shooting 42% from the field to rack up 12 points and five rebounds.

Mountain Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive games.

Hendersonville lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Vicky Flowers, who earned 16 points. Another player making a difference was Samiyah Smith, who had 12 points.

Mountain Heritage's record now sits at 20-6. As for Hendersonville, their loss dropped their record down to 20-5.

Mountain Heritage and Hendersonville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Cougars will face off against Bessemer City at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (98 vs. 392). Meanwhile, Hendersonville (ranked 113th) will meet Shelby (ranked 284th) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
