Jeivani Victorero was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Linkin Grey, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Cape Fear Christian Academy never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Falcon Christian Academy as they made off with a 13-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Taylor Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Eli Burns looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Landon Mclamb was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Elijah Ellis also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Cape Fear Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Cape Fear Christian Academy's record now sits at 9-7. As for Lee Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lee Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cape Fear Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lee Christian suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Cape Fear Christian Academy when the teams last played on April 8th. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
