Basketball Recap: Kurtis Menge's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Park City over Spanish Fork

Park City played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 85-64 to the Spanish Fork Dons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Miners of the 73-50 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2021.

Park City lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kurtis Menge, who posted 18 points and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Rice, who put up 15 points.

It was another big night for Gage Christensen, who went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points for Spanish Fork. Christensen's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brock Jacobson, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points and three steals.

Park City dropped their record down to 3-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Spanish Fork, their victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Park City will venture away from home to take on Ben Lomond at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Ben Lomond is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.2 points per game this season. As for Spanish Fork, they will head out to square off against Maple Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. One thing working in Spanish Fork's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
