League recap: South Brunswick propelled into state Top 25 after victory

South Brunswick was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Edison 37-14. The Vikings came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.

Monroe Township moved up to 73 from 107 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Greater Middlesex - Red. The Falcons were able to make the jump by beating East Brunswick 27-0.

South Brunswick's dynamic duo of T.J. Perkowski and Dion Hooper proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Perkowski threw for 71 yards and one touchdown and Hooper had 71 yards receiving.

Aqeel Daniels was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 156 yards on 20 carries as Edison topped Edison. Teammate Jordan Dunn added to the ground attack by rushing for 36 yards.

The Vikings' Perkowski and TJ Taylor have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Perkowski has thrown for 488 yards this season, while Taylor, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 10 catches for 271 yards. Akeer Franklin from Monroe Township leads the league in rushing with 534 yards.

A big matchup in Greater Middlesex - Red this week will be when South Brunswick takes on Piscataway. The Vikings are currently in first, while the Chiefs are in fourth.

Sayreville extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating J.P. Stevens, 16-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Bombers.
