Baseball Recap: Evadale Finds Home Field Redemption Against Spurger

There's no place like home for Evadale, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Spurger Pirates a 9-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brett Buckner was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Evadale's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cooper Palmer, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Evadale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Evadale's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Spurger, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evadale will venture away from home to square off against Big Sandy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Rebels surely won't give up without a fight. As for Spurger, they will head out to take on Deweyville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
