Basketball Recap: Harper Wilson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Salt Lake Academy over Intermountain Christian

Salt Lake Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 61-44 to the Intermountain Christian Lions. The Griffins lost against the Lions in their previous head to head back in November of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 111-25 score last time.

Salt Lake Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Harper Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. Wilson has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyson Harris, who went 6 for 13 en route to 14 points along with five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Salt Lake Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Leading Intermountain Christian to victory were Noah Hillaker and Noah Furze. Hillaker dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Furze dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Hillaker has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Knox Westenskow, who went 6 of 14 to rack up 14 points and six boards.

Salt Lake Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Intermountain Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-13 record this season.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Salt Lake Academy will challenge Merit Preparatory Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Salt Lake Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season. As for Intermountain Christian, they will square off against Waterford at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Intermountain Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Waterford likes a good challenge.
