Volleyball Recap: Dewitt Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

DeWitt can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mt. Pleasant Oilers, sneaking past 2-1. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

If you add up the scores from across all three sets (69-67) DeWitt actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-21, 25-23.

Lucy Roberts paced DeWitt's offense, picking up 11 kills. Roberts got some help from Delainey Buchanen and her 34 assists. Jenna Hitchcock and Natalie Clacko kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with three aces apiece.

Mt. Pleasant's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tessa Ervin, who had 12 digs and one assist. Ella Dawson also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

DeWitt's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Mt. Pleasant, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2-1.

After both having extra time off, DeWitt and Grand Ledge will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The contest will give the Panthers their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Mt. Pleasant, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Bay City Western at 7:00 p.m. on September 9. This will also be the Oilers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
