Basketball Recap: Mason Lane's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Highlands Ranch over Mountain Vista

Highlands Ranch lost against Mountain Vista back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Highlands Ranch Falcons came up short against the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles, falling 78-52. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 11th).

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mason Lane, who went 6 of 15 en route to 14 points and seven boards. Zach Benner also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Cal Baskind continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mountain Vista, going 11 for 21 on his way to 27 points and six steals. The contest was Baskind's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Oliver Junker, who went 6 of 8 en route to 15 points and five rebounds.

Highlands Ranch has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Mountain Vista, they pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highlands Ranch will face off against Ponderosa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Highlands Ranch is facing Ponderosa at the right time seeing as Ponderosa is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Mountain Vista has already played their next game (against Douglas County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
