Baseball Game Preview: Wilson Wildcats vs. Bowie Volunteers

The Wilson Wildcats will take on the Bowie Volunteers in a tournament on Saturday. Bowie took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Wilson, who comes in off a win.

Wilson is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Sunset 10-1 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Jesus Fermines spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Daniel Gonzalez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. David Rosas was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Bowie lost 8-2 to Plano East on Friday.

Bowie saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayson Wheeler, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Robert Deleon also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Bowie's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Wilson, their win bumped their record up to 3-5-1.
