Softball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Cupertino's Ninth in Last 12 Outings

Cupertino barely beat Palo Alto the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pioneers blew past the Vikings 12-2 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won nine matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Jasmyne Llanos spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Talitha Vaughn, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilly Roman, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Cupertino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Cupertino has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Palo Alto, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cupertino will host Monta Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers are facing the Matadors at the right time seeing as the Matadors are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Palo Alto, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against MacDonald at 4:00 p.m. The Condor have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.54 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of.
