The Poynette Pumas will take on the Jefferson Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Poynette will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
Poynette proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by six) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Waupun. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pumas have posted since May 21, 2024.
Meanwhile, while Jefferson put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Whitewater. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Whippets. Considering the Eagles have won 12 matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashlyn Enke made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aeryn Messmann, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Hildie Dempsey was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whitewater only posted an OBP of .062.
Poynette's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 20-4.
Poynette couldn't quite finish off Jefferson when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Will the Pumas have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
