Gridley is 9-1 against Orland since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Gridley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Orland will be up against a hot Gridley squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Bulldogs walked away with a 6-2 victory over Corning on Friday.
Aceson Gomez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since April 1st. The team also got some help courtesy of Gus Stogsdill, who earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Gridley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Orland came into Thursday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out Grace Davis 5-4 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since April 4th.
Victor Guerrero was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Guerrero was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Orland: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dominic Pacheco, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Gridley's victory bumped their record up to 15-8. As for Orland, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Gridley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Orland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Gridley beat Orland 3-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
