Baseball Recap: Newport Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Newport had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Thursday. They skirted past the Sweet Home Huskies 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cubs have posted against the Huskies since May 10, 2023.

Newport's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Sweet Home, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Newport will square off against Philomath at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Cubs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sweet Home, they will take on North Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Sweet Home is facing North Marion at the right time seeing as North Marion is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
