Softball Recap: Valparaiso's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Valparaiso dropped their record down to 10-13 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Munster Mustangs, falling 12-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Vikings' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Munster, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-3. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

For Munster's part, Ally Compton made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Compton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Caroline Wendlinger was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Kuna, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Valparaiso is taking a road trip to square off against La Porte at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Munster, they will welcome Hobart at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
