Softball Recap: West Covina Drops Highest Score of Season Against Garey

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Covina). They blew past the Garey Vikings 15-0 on Friday. The Bulldogs not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 23, 2024.

Leslie Baustista was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, West Covina let Danielle Diaz and Sophia Adler run wild. Diaz scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Adler scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave Adler a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hazel Manzano, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.

West Covina was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Garey only posted a batting average of .143.

The win made it two in a row for West Covina and bumps their season record up to 8-8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Garey, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Coming up, West Covina will venture away from home to face off against Rowland at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Garey, they will head out to square off against Azusa at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
