Football Recap: Straughn Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Straughn extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 4-5. They took a hard 38-22 fall against the Opp Bobcats. The Tigers lost against the Bobcats in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 46-7 score last time.

Despite the loss, Straughn still got an impressive performance from Tate Watson, who rushed for 76 yards, and also threw for 114 yards and one TD. Watson's passing game has become a key predictor of the Tigers' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-4 otherwise. Gavin Bush also deserves some recognition as he posted his first receiving yards of the season.

As for Opp, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.3 points on average over those games.

Opp's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matthew Morgan, who rushed for 129 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Those 129 rushing yards gave Morgan a new career-high. Brandyn Washington also helped with two scores in total.

Coming up, Straughn will venture away from home to take on Goshen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Opp, they will host Holmes County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils' defense has only allowed 14.1 points per game this season, so the Bobcats' offense will have their work cut out for them.
