Garrett and Fremont are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Railroaders will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Garrett has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Garrett is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They lost 15-6 to Leo.
Jackson Ice was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Keagan Jobe was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Fremont got the win against Fort Wayne Canterbury on Monday by a conclusive 15-4. Considering the Eagles have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Tyler Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Miller was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Fremont got a massive performance out of Colten Guthrie, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ben Ford, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Fremont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne Canterbury only posted an OBP of .333.
Fremont has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Garrett, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Garrett has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fremont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Garrett came up short against Fremont in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 7-3. Can the Railroaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
