Basketball Recap: Boone Grove's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

It was a good run, but Boone Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 55-39 bruising from the New Prairie Cougars. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Boone Grove still got an impressive performance from Jack Stevens, who posted 18 points. The matchup was Stevens' seventh in a row with at least 16 points. Andrew Batesole was another key player, putting up eight points.

Brody Wiginton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for New Prairie, dropping a double-double with 28 points and 18 rebounds. Wiginton is becoming a predictor of New Prairie's success: when he posts at least 20 points the team is 4-2 (and 1-15 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jagger Daniels, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 12 points and five steals.

Boone Grove now has a losing record of 10-11. As for New Prairie, their victory bumped their record up to 5-17.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Boone Grove will face off against Whiting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Boone Grove is facing Whiting at the right time seeing as Whiting is stuck on a 22-game losing streak. As for New Prairie, they will square off against Glenn at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Prairie will be up against Glenn's rather soft defense (which has allowed 58.38 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
