The Northfield Norsemen will challenge the Union City Indians on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Northfield is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past Cowan 10-9. Ten seems to be a good number for the Norsemen as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Caleb Dubois made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 12 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Branson Hayslett, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Ty Leming was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Northfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Union City got themselves on the board against Seton Catholic on Monday, but Seton Catholic never followed suit. They blew past the Cardinals 23-0. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Trendon Spence made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Union City is 6-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-10 otherwise. Spence was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Joseangel Perez-Contreras was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Union City: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Collins, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Northfield's record now sits at 14-16. As for Union City, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
