Rumson-Fair Haven is a perfect 3-0 against Neptune since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Rumson-Fair Haven will head out to challenge Neptune at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
While Bulldogs fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Monday's season opener. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Keansburg on Monday.
Lilee Martinelli made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Martinelli was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Rumson-Fair Haven got a massive performance out of Caitlin (Cate) Bush, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Riley Berry was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Neptune made easy work of Long Branch on Monday and carried off a 17-6 victory. The win continues a trend for the Scarlet Fliers in their matchups with the Green Wave: they've now won eight in a row.
Like Rumson-Fair Haven, Neptune also got a great game from a two-way player: Kadidja Braxton. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Braxton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauren Cassidy, who scored four runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sophia Forgach, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Neptune always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Long Branch only posted an OBP of .250.
Rumson-Fair Haven took their victory against Neptune when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rumson-Fair Haven since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
