Basketball Game Preview: Crete Cardinals vs. Gering Bulldogs

The Crete Cardinals will challenge the Gering Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Crete is headed into the match having just posted their biggest victory since December 5, 2024 on Saturday. They breezed by Mercy to the tune of 57-29. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 31-8.

Meanwhile, Gering had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 70-36 blowout they got against the Minutemen. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 30 points or more this season.

Crete better keep an eye on Makenzie Todd. She was instrumental in Gering's win, going 9 for 13 on her way to 22 points and five steals. Jacelyn Brown was another key player, putting up 12 points and six steals.

Gering smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Gering's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Crete, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.

Crete strolled past Gering in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 66-50. Will Crete repeat their success, or does Gering have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
