Basketball Recap: Port St. Joe Comes Up Short

Port St. Joe and Munroe squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Port St. Joe had to settle for second. They took a 59-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Munroe Bobcats. The Tiger Sharks have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Despite the defeat, Port St. Joe saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zay Jenkins posted 16 points along with seven assists and six steals. Jenkins has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Reese, who scored 11 points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Port St. Joe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive matches.

Munroe's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zelden Chukes, who had six points in addition to eight boards and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Antwon West, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points and four steals.

Port St. Joe's loss dropped their record down to 21-6. As for Munroe, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.

Port St. Joe does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Munroe, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-43 defeat against Crossroad Academy on the 17th.
