Recap: West Mesa Mustangs vs. Eldorado Golden Eagles

The West Mesa Mustangs lost against the Eldorado Golden Eagles back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. West Mesa might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 58-38 to Eldorado, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. West Mesa has not had much luck with Eldorado recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Monique Sena and Olivia Fresquez certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Sena scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Fresquez scored ten points. Sena is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played.

It was another big night for Bella Hines, who scored 24 points along with six steals and five rebounds for Eldorado. That makes it 18 consecutive games in which Hines has scored at least a third of Eldorado's points. Chioma Holyfield was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.

West Mesa now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Eldorado, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Mesa won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Atrisco Heritage Academy at 12:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Atrisco Heritage Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Tuesday. As for Eldorado, they will head out on the road to challenge La Cueva at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New Mexico (Eldorado is ranked eighth, while La Cueva is ranked seventh).
