Cardinal Newman extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 4-1. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 win over the Pleasant Valley Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cardinals have posted since October 11, 2024.

It was another big night for Pathoumnourack Malakai, who rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 125 rushing yards.

Cardinal Newman didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Kordel Strane.

As for Pleasant Valley, they now have a losing record of 2-3. Having soared to a lofty 35 points in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

Despite the loss, Pleasant Valley still got an impressive performance from Titus Andrus, who rushed for 99 yards and one TD, and also caught one score. Drew Van Nuys also helped out with an impressive 117 receiving yards.

Looking ahead, after each having a week off, Cardinal Newman and Windsor will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Cardinals 13.2, the Jaguars 11) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Pleasant Valley, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Red Bluff at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. The Spartans' defense has only allowed 6.8 points per game this season, so the Vikings' offense will have their work cut out for them.
