Baseball Recap: Greenwood Comes Up Short

Greenwood had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-9 to make it ten. They lost 12-2 to the Galena Bears. The Blue Jays were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bears from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Galena, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.

For Galena's part, Bryce Wall was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Wall was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Cody Jones and Blake Wall did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Blake went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Jones is becoming a predictor of Galena's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Joell Simpson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Greenwood will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Humansville at 5:00 p.m. As for Galena, they will venture away from home to face off against Clever at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
