Basketball Recap: The Classical Academy Takes a Loss

The Classical Academy was the 50-30 winner over Canon City when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Classical Academy Titans fell 40-27 to the Canon City Tigers on Wednesday.

Despite the loss, The Classical Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ryann Ferguson posted nine points and five rebounds. Ferguson continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Even though they lost, The Classical Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive matches.

It was another big night for Alexi Till, who scored 12 points and eight steals for Canon City. Till has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorelai Murphy, who earned ten points and four steals.

The Classical Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Canon City, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 17-5.

Coming up, The Classical Academy will look to defend their home court on Monday against Peak to Peak at 6:00 p.m. As for Canon City, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 38-8 victory against Palmer on the 20th.
