Baseball Game Preview: Maurepas Wolves vs. Simsboro Tigers

The Maurepas Wolves will challenge the Simsboro Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Simsboro will be up against a hot Maurepas team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Maurepas narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Family Christian 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since April 13, 2024.

Meanwhile, Simsboro hadn't done well against Doyline recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Simsboro came out on top in a nail-biter against Doyline, sneaking past 4-3.

Chris Harrell made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Chris Stevens was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maximus Lee, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4.

Maurepas' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Simsboro, they now have a winning record of 10-9-1.

Maurepas was able to grind out a solid win over Simsboro when the teams last played back in May of 2015, winning 5-2. Does Maurepas have another victory up their sleeve, or will Simsboro turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
