Basketball Recap: Carbondale Terriers vs. Mt. Vernon Rams

Carbondale and Mt. Vernon squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Carbondale had to settle for second. They took a 64-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Vernon Rams. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Rams this season, with their most recent defeat being a 69-58 loss back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mt. Vernon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Melaina Zedalis, who to rack up 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The matchup was Zedalis' eighth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kamaree Pollard, who en route to 22 points and five boards.

Carbondale's defeat dropped their record down to 19-14. As for Mt. Vernon, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 27-3.

Carbondale does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mt. Vernon, they will face off against Effingham at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Vernon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 contests -- so hopefully Effingham likes a good challenge.
