Baseball Recap: Valencia Drops Highest Score of Season Against Highland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valencia). Everything went their way against the Highland Hornets on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-4 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Jaguars considering their two-run performance the match before.

Zaylon Zamora made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Ancel Rossell was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Valencia is 4-1 when Rossell posts two or more runs, but 6-13 otherwise. Pryce Henry was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Valencia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland only managed five hits.

Valencia's victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-14. As for Highland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16-1 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valencia will take on Belen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Jaguars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Highland, they will face off against St. Pius X at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Sartans will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight.
