Football Recap: Archbishop Stepinac Comes Up Short Despite Ka'mauri Guinyard's Big Defensive Game

Archbishop Stepinac and Chaminade squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Archbishop Stepinac had to settle for second. They fell 18-14 to the Flyers. The Crusaders have struggled against the Flyers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Archbishop Stepinac still got an impressive performance from John Smith, who rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 106.2 rushing yards per game.

Even if they lost, Archbishop Stepinac's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ka'Mauri Guinyard. Archbishop Stepinac is 5-2 when Guinyard posts one or more sacks, but 1-3 otherwise.

A big part of Chaminade's victory came down to the chemistry between Sean Carnevale and his top target Sean Powers. Carnevale threw for 230 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 80% of his passes while Powers picked up 89 receiving yards and one score. Those 230 passing yards gave Carnevale a new career-high.

Archbishop Stepinac's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Chaminade, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-4.

Archbishop Stepinac does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chaminade, they will head out on the road to square off against Monsignor Farrell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions' defense has only allowed 15 points per game this season, so the Flyers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
