Baseball Recap: Rockwood Takes a Loss

Rockwood extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 23 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-15 in the process. They lost 19-2 to the Midway Green Wave. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Midway, the win snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 9-17-1 record. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 17th (when they won 18-0).

For Midway's part, Dawson Buckner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Buckner was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rowynn McClure, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Midway's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 4-16-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Brennan Reed, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Rockwood will challenge Oliver Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Midway, they will square off against Coalfield at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Green Wave will need to watch out since the Yellow Jackets have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.
