Softball Game Preview: Tidehaven Tigers vs. Columbus Cardinals

Tidehaven is 0-9 against Columbus since March of 2021 but things could change on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Tidehaven Tigers duke it out with Columbus Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Tidehaven lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Yoakum, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. Tidehaven was the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over Yoakum on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won seven matchups in a row.

Maleah Galvan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayleigh Nash, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. She has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times she's played.

Meanwhile, Columbus got themselves on the board against Edna on Tuesday, but Edna never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Cowboys with a sharp 11-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cardinals.

Tidehaven's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Columbus, their record now sits at 12-5-1.

Tidehaven suffered a grim 15-8 defeat to Columbus in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Tidehaven avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
