Recap: Monticello Mustangs vs. William Monroe Dragons
After losing to the William Monroe Dragons the last time they met, the Monticello Mustangs decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Monticello strolled past William Monroe with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 49-35. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Monticello.
Monticello's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Wood, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Samantha Shifflett, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Monticello's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for William Monroe, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monticello and Western Albemarle will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for William Monroe, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Broadway at 7:00 p.m. Broadway presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than William Monroe in Virginia (Broadway is ranked 84th, while William Monroe is ranked 202nd).
