Baseball Game Preview: Maywood CES Wolfpack vs. Serra Cavaliers

The Maywood CES Wolfpack will take on the Serra Cavaliers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Maywood CES comes in on three and Serra on five.

On Friday, Maywood CES earned a 6-2 victory over Sotomayor.

David Aguirre made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Aguirre was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Maywood CES: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brian Aguirre, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Maywood CES was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Serra gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over La Salle. The game was the first time the Cavaliers have beaten the Lancers on their field since March 28, 2023.

The victory got Maywood CES back to even at 5-5. As for Serra, their record now sits at 11-4.
