Preview: Omaha Northwest Huskies vs. Grand Island Islanders
Omaha Northwest has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge The Grand Island Islanders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Omaha Northwest comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last eight games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, Omaha Northwest took a serious blow against Fremont, falling 43-7. Omaha Northwest was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.
Meanwhile, Grand Island's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 18-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Omaha North.
Omaha Northwest's defeat was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 2-7 Fremont and 2-7 South Sioux City (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 44.3% over those games). As for Grand Island, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Omaha Northwest took a serious blow against Grand Island in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 52-0. Can Omaha Northwest avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
