Baseball Recap: Huron River Rats vs. Milan Big Reds
Huron had lost ten straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 9-25-1 to make it 11. They came up short against the Milan Big Reds, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Big Reds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-7 on Saturday.
Huron saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Hoffman, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Milan, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-17. They not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 21st (when they won 15-3).
On Milan's side, Nickson Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. What's more, Smith posted five strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four matches. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Gunnar Kruise was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Kirk Demars Jr. was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Huron has already played their next game, a 3-1 loss against Monroe on the 19th. As for Milan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 4-2 defeat against Airport on the 19th.
