Basketball Recap: Five Straight Home Wins for Stuarts Draft

There's no place like home for Stuarts Draft, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They walked away with a 39-28 victory over the Alleghany Cougars on Monday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 42-38 back in December of 2024.

Defeat or not, Alleghany got some senior leadership from Kelsey Nicely and Bryce Leitch. Nicely posted six points and seven rebounds, while Leitch had 13 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 46.4% of Alleghany's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Stuarts Draft pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for Alleghany, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3.

Stuarts Draft didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-32 victory against Waynesboro on the 3rd. As for Alleghany, they will be playing at home against Carroll County at 7:00 p.m. on January 6th. Alleghany is facing Carroll County at the right time seeing as Carroll County is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
