Baseball Game Preview: Portage Central Mustangs vs. Mattawan Wildcats

The Portage Central Mustangs will head out to square off against the Mattawan Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Saturday, Portage Central didn't have quite enough to beat Grandville and fell 10-9.

Jake Ludwig made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Rylan McNally, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Mattawan and St. Joseph finished up on equal footing with a 2-2 tie on Thursday.

Portage Central has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. Mattawan's tie makes their record 4-1-3 this season.

Portage Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Mattawan in their previous matchup back in June of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
