Baseball Recap: Lexington Has No Trouble Against Heyworth

Lexington barely beat Heyworth the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Minutemen blew past the Hornets 9-2 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Minutemen, who have now won five matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kayden Knight made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. He has become a key player for Lexington: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Knight was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Cooper Miller was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Braeden Barber was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Lexington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Lexington and bumps their season record up to 8-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Heyworth, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.

Coming up, Lexington will head out on the road to challenge Ridgeview at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Minutemen are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Heyworth, they will square off against Eureka at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Eureka will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Heyworth surely won't give up without a fight.
