Softball Recap: Northglenn Norsemen vs. Thornton Trojans

Northglenn's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Everything went their way against the Thornton Trojans as the Northglenn Norsemen made off with a 14-6 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Norsemen needed considering they were shutout in their previous game.

Ryann Fredrick and Jocelyn Evans made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Fredrick pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Evans struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most hits Fredrick has posted since back in September of 2023. At the plate, Fredrick went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Evans scored four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ary Samaniego was excellent, going 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, and a double. The team also got some help courtesy of Brookelynn Hendrick, who scored a run while going 1-for-5.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Northglenn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thornton only posted a batting average of .222.

Northglenn is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Thornton, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northglenn will host Westminster at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams will come into the matchup having just posted big wins, so someone is set to suffer a big change in fortunes. As for Thornton, they will welcome Denver South at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
