Volleyball Recap: Mesa Vista Comes Up Short

Mesa Vista lost against Questa on October 14th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Trojans took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.

While Mesa Vista ultimately came up short, they really made Questa work, particularly in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 27-25, 19-25, 25-23.

Despite the defeat, Mesa Vista saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bella Gallegos had 15 digs. Gallegos has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last eight times she's played.

Questa had a senior duo take command as Janae Dominguez had 25 digs and four aces and Jocelyne Ortega had 28 digs and two assists. Those 25 digs set a new season-high mark for Dominguez. Another player making a difference was Maliyah Dominguez, who had 13 digs and 13 assists.

Mesa Vista's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Questa, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-4.

Mesa Vista wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Gateway Christian on the 1st. As for Questa, they will face off against Penasco at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
