Coral Reef is a perfect 10-0 against Ferguson since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Barracudas will square off against the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. Coral Reef is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Coral Reef had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Bishop Verot put an end to it last Saturday. The Barracudas fell 5-2 to the Vikings. The Barracudas' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Quinley Wylie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Ferguson had no problem doing just that on Monday. They never let the Cavaliers get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.
Ashley Barroso looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Briana Canahuate was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Amaya Santamaria, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Ferguson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .562. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Ferguson's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Coral Reef, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Coral Reef hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Ferguson struggles in that department as they've averaged .418. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Coral Reef's way against Ferguson in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Coral Reef made off with a 15-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Barracudas since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
