Recap: Tolleson Wolverines vs. La Joya Community Fighting Lobos
Even though the Tolleson Wolverines have not done well against the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Tolleson walked away with a 61-51 win over La Joya Community. The win was familiar territory for Tolleson who now have three in a row.
Tolleson was led to victory by Rico Blassingame and Jahlil Loyd. Blassingame scored 12 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals, while Loyd scored 22 points along with 9 rebounds. The game was Loyd's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyeshon Howard, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Despite the defeat, La Joya Community had strong showings from Nuul Deng, who scored 11 points along with 9 rebounds, and Makuach Makuei, who scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds. Thavarin Ith was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 6 rebounds.
The win got Tolleson back to even at 4-4. As for La Joya Community, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Tolleson will head out on the road to face off against Desert Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for La Joya Community, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. Mountain View is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
