Preview: Boulder City Eagles vs. Virgin Valley Bulldogs
Boulder City is 9-1 against Virgin Valley since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Boulder City Eagles will be playing at home against the Virgin Valley Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, Boulder City earned a 71-64 win over Pahrump Valley. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Boulder City.
Boulder City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Wright, who scored 20 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Roman Rose, who scored 18 points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Virgin Valley, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 71-57 loss to Mater Academy East Las Vegas on Monday. Virgin Valley was down 60-36 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the loss, Virgin Valley saw an underclassman step up: Corban Waite scored seven points along with five assists and four steals. Waite is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Rodrigo Lopez, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Boulder City is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. As for Virgin Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 14-10.
Monday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Boulder City have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 42.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Virgin Valley struggles in that department as they've made 39% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Boulder City took their victory against Virgin Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 80-59. Will Boulder City repeat their success, or does Virgin Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
