Soccer Game Preview: Westmont vs. Mt. Pleasant

The Westmont Warriors will take on the Mt. Pleasant Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Westmont is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Lincoln just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 2-1. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warriors came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Lions are ranked 333rd).

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, Mt. Pleasant was not quite Willow Glen's equal in the second half on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 1-0.

Westmont's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 11-3. As for Mt. Pleasant, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3-4.

Everything went Westmont's way against Mt. Pleasant when the teams last played back in January, as Westmont made off with a 6-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westmont since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
