Preview: Le Roy Oatkan Knights vs. Attica/Alexander

Le Roy has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on Attica/Alexander at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Le Roy walked away with it. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat East Rochester-Gananda 37-6 at home. Given Le Roy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 124th, while East Rochester-Gananda is ranked 281st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Le Roy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Drew Strollo out in front who rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Tony Piazza, who rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Attica/Alexander came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 42-0 victory over Warsaw/Letchworth/Perry. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Attica/Alexander had established a 35 point advantage.

Attica/Alexander's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landyn Thomas, who rushed for 177 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Strzelec, who rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.

Le Roy's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.3 points per game. As for Attica/Alexander, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.

Saturday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Le Roy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 273.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Attica/Alexander struggles in that department as they've been averaging 248.9 per game. It's looking like Saturday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches. Le Roy strolled past Attica/Alexander in their previous meeting back in September by a score of 44-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for Le Roy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
