Softball Recap: Nine Straight Home Victories for Bunker Hill

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Bunker Hill ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the West Lincoln Rebels, sneaking past 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Bears sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Serena Thurman was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over eight innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Gracie Setzer was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.

Bunker Hill's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for West Lincoln, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bunker Hill will challenge Alexander Central at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bears 3.2, the Cougars 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for West Lincoln, they will take on Kings Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rebels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mountaineers have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
