Football Game Preview: Hoover Patriots vs. Cabrillo Conquistadores + Official Tickets

The Hoover Patriots will venture away from home to face off against the Cabrillo Conquistadores at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hoover has given up an average of 29.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hoover is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against McLane on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Patriots had to suffer through a 43-13 loss at the hands of the Highlanders. The Patriots have struggled against the Highlanders recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Even if they lost, Hoover's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Alex Velasquez and Jonathan Nem, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Cabrillo was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 29-23 to Templeton. While losing is never fun, the Conquistadores can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while the Eagles are ranked 125th).

Hoover will need to focus on slowing down Andrew Wallace, one of several Cabrillo players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 118 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 86 yards on only seven carries. Marcus Nash was in the mix as well, providing Cabrillo with two scores.

Hoover's record is now 4-6. As for Cabrillo, their record now sits at 7-3.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Hoover has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 150.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cabrillo struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 267.5 rushing yards.
