Softball Recap: United Lions vs. Homer-Center Wildcats
After flying high against Conemaugh Township last Tuesday, United came back down to earth. The United Lions fell 9-5 to the Homer-Center Wildcats on Tuesday. United was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Homer-Center apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
Abigail McConville put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). McConville has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. McConville was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Madisyn Burkett made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Cleo Long was another key contributor, going 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
United's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Homer-Center, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
United will head out on the road to square off against Penns Manor at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Homer-Center, they will be playing at home against Cambria Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
